# Check a floor plan

> Place the fills, keep them up to date, and clear them.

## The QuickBADS tab

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Place BADS** | Checks the apartments on this plan's level and draws the fills. |
| **Auto Update** | Keeps the fills and the schedule up to date while you design. Green switch = on, grey = off. |
| **Go To Schedule** | Opens the apartment schedule (see [Apartment names and schedule](/names-and-schedule)). |
| **Graphics** | Fill colours and fill style (see [Settings and graphics](/settings)). |
| **Settings** | Labels, minimum living depth and kitchen storage (see [Settings and graphics](/settings)). |
| **Clear Fills ▾** | **Clear Apartment** or **Clear Whole Plan**. |
| **Report Bug** | Tells you which files to send us when something goes wrong (see [Get help](/help)). |
| **Licence** | Add your licence key (see [Licence key](/licence)). |

## Place BADS

1. Open a floor plan view.
2. Go to the **QuickBADS** tab and click **Place BADS**.

The fills, labels, circulation paths and apartment tags are now on the plan, and the apartment schedule is set up the first time.

QuickBADS finds apartments from your walls, doors, windows and furniture. You don't need to place Revit rooms, and any rooms you have are not used for grading.

## Auto Update

When **Auto Update** is on (green switch), QuickBADS rechecks after every change, such as moving a wall, a door, a bed or a table, or resizing a QuickBADS fill. Only the levels the change reaches are rechecked, and only the apartments that changed are redrawn. The update waits until nothing is selected, so fills don't jump while you are still editing.

Click the button to turn it off (grey switch). You can still click **Place BADS** at any time.

<Tip>
  On a large floor plate each update can take a few seconds. Turn Auto Update off while you make big changes, then click **Place BADS**.
</Tip>

## Clear Fills

Click the arrow under **Clear Fills** and choose:

* **Clear Apartment**: removes one apartment's fills and labels from this plan, and forgets the edits you made to it. Select something in the apartment (its entry door, a fill or furniture) first, or select nothing and click inside it. The apartment stays off through Auto Update, but it is still graded and stays in the schedule. **Place BADS** brings it back.
* **Clear Whole Plan**: removes every QuickBADS fill and label from this plan, and forgets every edit (see [Edit the fills](/editing)).

Apartment names and schedule values are stored on the entry doors, so they stay.

## Ground floor

Heights are measured from the ground floor: it decides which apartments are on the ground floor (ground-level open space) and the 40 m height rule. To set it:

1. Open an elevation or section and click the level line of your ground floor.
2. In **Properties**, under **Constraints**, tick **BADS Ground Floor**.
3. Click **Place BADS** again.

If no level is ticked, QuickBADS uses a level named Ground, GF, G or GRD, otherwise the level closest to 0. If several are ticked, it uses the one closest to 0. For a podium or a sloping site, tick the level you want treated as ground. The report says which level it used and why.

## Shared (workshared) models

QuickBADS works in central models. If part of the plan has changed in the central model, it asks you to **Reload Latest** first. If someone else is editing part of the plan, it names them so you can ask them to **Synchronize with Central**. Changes that arrive through Synchronize or Reload Latest don't trigger Auto Update: click **Place BADS** to bring the fills up to date.

## The report

Each **Place BADS** writes the full report to `last-report.txt` in the add-in folder: every apartment found on the level, what was checked and the result. Keep it with your project records.
